In 2013 we won't be publishing podcasts as often as we did during the 2012 season.  In between #TRAP episodes we will share our reading, watching, and listening list - that's all one list y'all, remember we are a "bare minimum amount of research" operation.  Here goes, in no particular order, items for New England Revolution fans to consume.  #TRAP commentary in italics.

A Voice from Upstairs

The November #TMRP includes an interview of Brian Bilello - not much new, but good to hear from the President (@RevsPrez).  Hank pulled out of Brian a few of the club's targets for improving the roster and those seem to have been confirmed with the recent signing of Goncalves. The Midnight Ride's Hank and Matty always discuss everything Revs related.  Be sure and listen to both #TRAP and #TMRP.

Roster Additions

Steve Stoehr, from the fantastic Bent Musket, wrote about the Kalifa Cisse signing and Brian O'Connell, from New England Soccer Today, updated us about adding Goncalves. Two things are notable here: 1) the team is directly addressing the inexperience and competition for starting spots in our defense - a good thing for sure. 2) Mike Burns is the voice of the team when we sign players.  These are all nice things to hear from our general manager. I want to hear his evaluation of whether we have a strong or weak roster and where we need to get stronger. He still has a ways to go to build loyalty and faith in the vocal fan base, these quotes are good steps down that path.  Also, want a great read on the two veterans we added through the Re-Entry draft?  Check out Deep In the Fort.

Mock SuperDrafts or Mocking the SuperMeh?

Interestingly, Ives has Zimmerman going third to TFC (if they trade #1) and TopDrawer has Johnson going at twelve to RSL.  I really have no idea how the SuperDraft will unfold, but this is a quick way to find out about the prospects available.  Homegrown players who have grown through the academy system will soon make this event much less relevant to teams' rosters.  Exhibit A - Scott Caldwell.

4- NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION

*#J.J. Johnson, VCU, Forward

The Revs could are stacked in midfield, and there aren’t any defenders worth taking at this point, so the best forward on the board makes the most sense. Johnson is a powerful striker who has drawn comparisons to C.J. Sapong. He might be the most pro-ready attacking player in the draft pool. Even with Chad Barrett selected by the Revs in the Re-Entry Draft, the Revs would still be hard-pressed to pass on Johnson. Another possibility could be UConn goalkeeper Andre Blake if he were to sign a GA deal, but at this point we don’t see Blake signing.

Preseason Games!?

Our Revs return to The Scorcher in the Desert this January, though outside of #TRAP this preseason tournament is known as the Desert Diamond Cup. - Last year, we lost this tournament final to LA after going undefeated in Tuscon up to that point.  The Revs path to this televised preseason final is through Seattle, NYRB, and RSL.  That's right, it will be live on NBCSports! Preseason is not "the real thing" but we will be lining up against quality MLS sides and probably showing some projected starters and possible new contributors.
